Annieversary Week-end - Sept 1-4, 2007

Right: Sheets of rain in Savannah:

Here is a quick post of the past week-end. We have a couple of pages of notes! We celebrated our 25th anniversary by heading to a wedding in Hilton Head. Our plan was to be there Sat- Tues. Brian had arranged a sailing trip complete with romantic picnic. He had a gorgeous bouquet of flowers delivered to our room and the resort was on the beach.

It is hurricane season along the Eastern Shore board. We didn’t have a hurricane, but we had rain. And wind. And more rain. (Weather.com says 3.93 inches on Sat & Sun).

So, we saw a wet Savannah river-front (with the biggest candy store I have ever seen) and had a great breakfast at Huey’s. Then we took back roads to Hilton Head and found out why the area is referred to as Low Country – especially in torrential downpours.

The wedding was great fun – At the Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head and reception at the resort. We sat with the Roberts and everybody danced. A lot. Sunday came a bit early. (Photo is post party. Everyone is bare-foot, men have their pants rolled up after a visit to the ocean).

Based on the weather, we regrouped on our plans, changed our flights to return to a beautiful Chicago.

Monday evening we checked into a Price Line deal at the Inter-continental in downtown Chicago. We had an old favorite for dinner – Su Casa. I do not think it has changed in 25 years… Tuesday morning everyone was back to work and we had our bikes and the lakeshore to ourselves (and all the other slackers!). We biked to Loyola and back with stops for the totem pole, lunch, the zoo and lounging along the lake. (Brian now has a sore back. It seemed like a good idea at the time! )

With a quick shower and clean-up in the hotel’s fitness center (the old Shriner’s Medinah Athletic Club) we were off to a fabulous dinner at TRU (led off with a nice respite at a sidewalk café). Below photo is from TRU).

Wow, sounds like a great weekend despite enought rain to float a boat! The pictures are great, and happy anniversary again!
